Card Windows

A relatively new feature in FileMaker Pro is the card window. It opens up over your current window, which remains (dimmed) in the background. Card windows are useful for entering small amounts of information that will be of value when you return to your main window.

For example, on many output layouts I have a button called "Subtitle". It lets you create a customized subtitle for that particular printout. In the past, clicking on "Subtitle" has taken you to a separate screen where you could enter the subtitle you wanted, then click on a "Return" button to go back to the screen you came from. Henceforth, however, clicking on the "Subtitle" button will bring up a card window like this:

After you've entered your preferred subtitle, simply click on the circled X in the upper-left corner to close the card and see your original screen again.

In some cases, there may be action buttons at the bottom of a card window, and clicking on one of them may close the card automatically for you.
